Lock Down the Domain Name for Your Brand Name Right Now Before Someone Else Gets It!

By  Cartess Ross

Don’t let this happen to you… Every week I get an e-mail from someone who spent soooo much of their time, money and resources into building up their ‘brand name’ and when they finally decide to go get the dot-com version of their brand name, it’s already gone.

Yep… Someone else snatched it up before they did. Watch this video so you can learn how to prevent this from happening to you:

I will guide you through this process and provide you with proven strategies to help you build a t-shirt company. As one of the original pioneers to start selling t-shirts online 20 years ago, I've sold millions of dollars in t shirts to people all over the world. I founded TshirtRiches in 2007 to teach others how to turn their t-shirt ideas into a business. So if you're ready, hop onboard and let's make this money!

  • Steve Bronson says:

Cartess, thanks for the advise on the domain name thing. I am curious about something, though. To set up your website through Go Gaddy, you will need a shopping cart. If you DON’T set up your shopping cart through Go Daddy, then how do you set one up otherwise, and tie it in with your merchant account at your bank?

    • Hi Steve,

Setting up the shopping cart on your website will require some programming. If you are not knowledgeable on how to get this done. I would suggest hiring someone to do it for you. Once you have your merchant account set up you’ll have the ability to link everything together.

  • Cartess
You mentioned Google looking for sites that have purchased a 3 to 5 year domain name to put you at the head of the search response. So if I bought a one year not knowing this, is there a way to upgrade to a three year and cure this folly? Thanks

    • Hi James,

Yes… You should be able to log back in and buy additional time. If you’re having difficulty, contact your registrar… They should do it for you over the phone.

  • Cartess: 2 questions: 1) If I make a mistake with the heat setting or pressure on the heat press, is it possible to place the shirt back under the heat plate a second time and press it again to better set the ink???

    2) If I have two designs to place on the front of a shirt, i.e. “Captain” on upper left pocket and the other design on the center of the front of the shirt, can you just place them both on there at the same time, even though the instructions recommend a different heat setting for each design? And, if doing them at the same time, should I use the higher heat setting?

Thanks, Jeff Anderson (learning a lot and continuing to learn from you!!)

    • You won’t be able to press back down onto the design itself without having a ‘teflon sheet’ covering the design and then pressing back down onto the shirt.

If you wish to apply both at the same time, you’ll need to run a test to see if the higher setting will work out fine with the other design. If you decide to do one design at a time, a teflon sheet to cover the other design will work fine while you press the 2nd design onto the other part of the shirt.

Alternatively, you can let the part of the shirt with the first design hang outside the edge of the heat press while pressing onto the center… hope this makes sense.

  • Hi Mr. Ross,
Thanks for the information regarding “Locking Down Your Domain Names.” My question is: After registering my business name online, will I have to do the same with the courts within the state I live in.? A few years ago, I volunteered at a music school in (New York City) that was just getting started. I was asked to go the court building to look up the name of the school and register it if it was available.

    Thanks
    Misha

    • If you plan on incorporating using those names, then yes, you’ll have to incorporate with your secretary of state… If you choose not to incorporate but wish to operate as a business, then you’ll need to get a business license within your city/county (depending on your local setup). Call the county/city clerks office… They’ll tell you exactly what to do.

  • Thanx for the info in this video. Do you have information on how to i guess copywright designs? I have someone that draws my designs & i dont want anybody to steal them. Im just starting out & i have a couple greattt designs & i just want to make the least mistakes

    • Hi Janice

You may hire an attorney to “copyright/trademark” the designs for you. There’s also information available online. Again, the best thing would be to consult with a copyright/trademark attorney to advise you on the process.

  • T. Williams says:

Hey, there Mr. Ross, I wanted to start out by saying I appreciate all the info and am learning bunches from your course. Now I have already used your site and set up a few domains but there are a few that I am really wanting that say they are premium websites and cost another $700 to $3,000 dollars to buy not counting the yearly fees. Is there a way around this or a way to bargain these people down or to even make payments on it over months? Thanks again for all your help
    T. Williams

    • Hi and welcome… Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is make an offer. These people already own them and many people simply buy certain names to hold onto them for resale at a later date. It’s actually a great business — people do it full time.

Unfortunately, there’s no way around it other than making them an offer. I purchased a great domain name 2 weeks ago for $500 bucks — I really wanted it!

  • Hi
Can I print and sell NFL TEAMS or NHL names like Chicago bears or black hawks and sell in mall with logo or without logo?
    thank you

    • Hi Adnan,

I apologize probably not NFL names, etc are trademark. You’ll need to see about getting a license permit.

  • min. Leonard McKinnon says:

What do I do if I don’t have designs in my head to put on paper

    • Hi Leonard,

You can alway purchase stock screen printed transfers to resell as your own. 🙂

We have a source list available for purchase. The source list includes various companies to purchase custom, and pre-made transfers from a list of transfer vendors as well as vendors to purchase blank shirts.

The price for custom transfers will be determined by the amount of colors you have in your design. If you are on a tight budget then I would recommend no more than 2 colors in the design. The more colors in the design the more it will cost to have the designs screen printed onto the release paper.

If you would, please click the link below to purchase the source list.

  • Hi would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with?
I’m planning to start my own blog in the near
future but I’m having a tough time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution
and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your
design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S My apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!

  • Hi Cartess, In one of your videos you said that you recommend ”Epson Work Force WF-7010 Inkjet Printer” but not the Ink that comes with the printer, would you please say that what kind of Ink do you recommend for Epson Work Force?

    Thanks,
    sina

    • Hi Sina,

We highly recommend screen printed transfers there’s no way around it. Printing from a printer will not provide you quality results you need to stand out as far as quality is concerned. If you’re going to print from a printer we do not recommend using the ink that comes with the printer. WE recommend high pigment ink.

  • Hi, there doesn’t seem to be a “lock” on the domain name website. I’m familiar with a lock indicating the website is secure to put my cc information. Is there a reason why the condensed site you have with GoDaddy doesn’t have that? That said, If one isn’t knowledgeable on how to program a shopping cart, do you recommend using GoDaddy’s? Just want to be mindful of security measures.
    Thank you!
    Diane

    • HI Diane,

Sorry for the delay… The ‘lock’ won’t show up until you get to the page where they require your credit card details.

There are multiple 3rd party shopping carts you can connect to your website. Are you looking to collect credit card data or will you primarily be using paypal in the beginning?
