Start a Tshirt Business with ONE T-Shirt Design Idea

By  Cartess Ross

[wp_ad_camp_1]
In last weeks tutorial, I talked about making t-shirts with just ONE color. Today, it’s about starting and building a business around just ONE t-shirt.

Nothing says you need 12, 24 or 48 designs… I suggest you start with one because for most people, once they go out and buy all the heat pressing equipment and/or screen printing equipment, not much else happens.

So before you do all that, you’d be better off getting just one t-shirt design created and sent to a screen printer and let them print you out 50-100 t-shirts and see what you can do with those before jumping in blind…

  • hello just need to ask where can i find perminent transfers

    • HI Mary,
We have a source list available for purchase. The source list includes various companies to purchase custom, and pre-made transfers from a list of transfer vendors as well as vendors to purchase blank shirts.

The price for custom transfers will be determined by the amount of colors you have in your design. If you are on a tight budget then I would recommend no more than 2 colors in the design. The more colors in the design the more it will cost to have the designs screen printed onto the release paper.

If you would, please click the link below to purchase the source list.

  • Cartess,
Good information as usual and thank you! About the protege 300 initiative, I have a website, domain name and the works already, but basically struggling trying to “bring it to life”, will the web builders be able to keep the site I have already and just improve it or do they take it from scratch?

    • thanks John. Regarding the site — each web builder is different and it’ll take too much time for our guys to learn and adapt to each of the various web builders. We typically build around WordPress. I believe we could provide you with a much better functional and working website.

  • Hey Cartess,
I’m a member but looking into the protege300.

You say to order like around 100 shirts. Should you buy like 25 each of size small, med, large and x-large? Just wondered that when you said to buy about 100 shirts. In real life I bet one size would sell more, not sure how that works for pre-screening the shirts. Good idea to get your feet wet though.

Also, do you think buying images from websites that sell images for commercial use would work for selling t shirts? This way the art or picture is already done and I get to look for what I want. I just don’t have much ideas for t shirt graphics or words right now but have at least one niche idea.

    • hi Jesse… Yes. You can do 25 of each size, or even 20 each, that way you can include a 2XL shirt in there… The key is to just get going. It’s hard to predict what size would sell, but in time, you’ll start to see which you’d need more of.

Without knowing what you’re doing, it’s hard to say what to do about the graphics… I’d personally get a graphic designer to do your artwork. Fees can get pretty high when using graphics from these sites that sell them. You have to be careful and read the license for each image. Some will NOT allow you to put onto t-shirts for the purposes of reselling without paying a much higher licensing fee.

  • Hey I sell shirts and do vinyl and screen print but my question to you is after watching a few of these videos yal mentioned a website that will make a design for you and give you the copyright as well for around $25. I don’t see the info on that website unless im looking over it; but I have two designs im interested in letting someone upgrade for me that I have done but I have not posted yet til I can get the copy right on them done also is there a certain business you would say to go to for copyright protection??

  • Where do I buy a cheap pressure machine at to get started

    • HI Linda,
Cheap heat press machines doesn’t always mean it’s the best solution. We highly recommend the Hotronix machines. One reason, because they’re great machines and the warranty on the machines are AWESOME! We’ve had members to go after the cheap machines on Ebay, Amazon and similar places. Only to have the machine less than a month and the heating element going out of the machines, or the machines not heating properly to press the designs onto the shirts.

I would recommend looking for some great used machines. Please sure to read the reviews of what others say about the machine. If you can’t afford a machine right out. Just save until you’re able to purchase a good machine.
