By  Cartess Ross

I will guide you through this process and provide you with proven strategies to help you build a t-shirt company. As one of the original pioneers to start selling t-shirts online 20 years ago, I've sold millions of dollars in t shirts to people all over the world. I founded TshirtRiches in 2007 to teach others how to turn their t-shirt ideas into a business. So if you're ready, hop onboard and let's make this money!

  • I enjoyed this video. I actually started working on my design and taking action. Thanks for the encouragement. I don’t need design services because I used Odesk.com but what you guys are doing is great.

    • Thanks for the post Celia. I love hearing when others decide to take action. Don’t let up — keep it moving and take at least 1 action daily that’ll keep you moving forward towards your goal!

WELL AS USUAL IAM INSPIRED..EVERYTHING YOU SAY CARTESS I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT OVER AND OVER AGAIN…LIKE MANY,, ‘TRUST FACTOR’ IS ALWAYS A STUMBLING BLOCK …AND WHEN I HEAR YOU SPEAK ITS LIKE YOU ARE TALKING DIRECTLY TO ME…AND I GET ENCOURAGED ALL OVER AGAIN…HERE IS THE THE KICKER..I HAVE PUT T-SHIRTS OUT AND HAVE SOLD THEM AND HAVE GIVING THEM AWAY..WITH NOTHING BUT ”POSITIVE” FEED BACK!!!! I TRIED TO ..OR ATTEMPT TO SET UP A WEBSITE,,A LOT OF THE LINGO AND TERMS THEY USE ..I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND…AND IT IS FRUSTRATING…AND SCARY!!! DONT WANT TO GET TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AND THE LITTLE MONEY I DO HAVE DONT WANT IT STOLEN FRO ME..IM A SINGLE MOM…AND I DO WORRY ABOUT THAT… I LOVE YOUR INFORMATION..THANK YOU BUT I DO NEED HELP!!!!

    • hi Patricia,

Thanks for your honesty… Fear holds a lot of people back. But at some point, you’re going to have to take the plunge.

Getting a website may seem like a challenge, but if you want one, you’re either going to have to build it yourself, or pay someone to do it.

Use your credit card/debit card… Most banks will protect your purchase and reverse it if you end up with someone who doesn’t complete the job.

We can build your site for you as well — let us know if you’re interested: info@tshirtriches.com

  • Thanks for this encouragement Cartess! I’ve also begun to have my designs created. However, I have run into a problem that I’d like input on. I have 5 designs that were made and I have to admit that I am not wholly pleased with them. My designer lives in London and because my t-shirts are based around African American phrases, I feel that a lot gets lost in translation.
My concern: should I start over? I luckily have the money to commission new artwork, but I am not sure on how to communicate with the designer effectively so that I am 100% satisfied.
Cartess, TSR audience, how shall I proceed?

    Thanks for the advice!!

    • hi Kristen,

One option would be to hire an African-American designer if you feel they’ll understand what you want.

Moving forward, have them do just one design. If they get it right, then hand over the remaining four. Better to be unhappy with one versus five designs.

I don’t know how you communicated with the first designer (email, phone?). The key is being extremely descriptive about what you want. Sometimes when I write out what I want, I can end up going 3-5 pages trying to communicate my thoughts.

Also, so multiple examples of styles you like — this will help the designer as well when they can see. Also, if you can sketch out a general idea to get them going in the right direction — that might be enough.

If you’re unhappy with what you got, start over.. It’s your brand. It’s your designs and it’ll represent you if you release it.

We can help with your designs if need be, let us know!

      Good luck!

    • I am so glad the videos have been helpful to you. Let us know if u require anything more!

  • Hey Cartess,

Thanks for all of the info. I am a graphic designer that recently really started pushing the t-shirt portion of my business. I ran across your videos when I was looking for more info on sublimation. I am glad I did! It has really propelled me to want to do more than I thought. I was planning to find ways to increase my business with the designs others commission me to do for the shirts they need. I hadn’t really focused on designing my own for my own purpose.

After watching your videos, I decided to kill two birds with one stone. Yesterday, I walked my neighborhood (for exercise) and placed my business card on each persons door in my apartment complex. The business cards feature some designs I have done. I got calls that same day!

That’s awesome! Thanks for the encouragement!

    • Hi Lakesha,

That’s so great to hear! Please continue to move forward and keep us posted!

      Thanks for posting!

  • Hi Cartess,
If you take a picture of a building which is public domain, am I correct that you can then freely print that picture on a tshirt without obtaining their permission? Also, when you print Bible verses, do you have to indicate also where it came from (i.e. Psalm 37:4)? Thank you.

    • Hi Analia,

It would depend on what kind of building. Is it private property on someone’s land? If so, you’ll need to get permission and create a form for them to sign giving you permission to use the image of their property, building, etc.

  • Hi Cartess,

I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now and have been brainstorming a few t-shirt designs. My problem is though, is that some of my designs include characters or designs in video games / movies. Now with that said, I know that it’s copyright infringement if I place it on a t-shirt and sell it, but how do the thousands of other designs get away with it? I see hundreds of t-shirt designs with Mario, or Link, etc. Is there a grey area to creating designs that are inspired from copyrighted material? Also, how do your artists deal with clients that want them to design something with a copyrighted character?

I haven’t purchased anything yet, as I was thinking of going the screen printing with inks instead of plastisol.

Thanks for your engaging and helpful videos,
    Justin

    • Hi Justin,

Just because you see it doesn’t mean they didn’t get in trouble or they got the rights to use the license to use them. 🙂

  • Steve Lloyd says:

    Cartess,

I must say I am having a rough time developing confidence it what you are teaching, when the quality of your videos is so poor. This one of the lady that built her business from one design there is no video – just the audio.

    Thanks,

    Steve Lloyd

    • There is a video there — unfortunately, I spoke a little tooo long to lay the foundation… The video portion actually starts at the 4 minute, 27 second mark. I apologize if my ‘style’ doesn’t work for you. Nonetheless, this would be the first complaint I’ve received regarding this particular ‘video’. The comments on this page doesn’t seem to reflect your view point. There is a video there — I just take a little longer to get to the point for some people. In this biz, I can’t please everyone — sorry!

  • Hi!
I am just starting into the tshirt business. I have some designs already I want to put on transfer paper. My question is, if I order about 50-100 custom tranfers can I only order one design or can I order multiple design?
    Thank you!
By the way, I like the way you are helping people through your advices.
    God bless you!
    Pedro

    • HI Pedro,

You can have how many design you wish to have printed. You’ll need to contact the transfer companies directly.

    Kingdom Greetings Cartess!

It’s about day 5 since I became a student in your T-shirt riches program and your program is heavy laden with content rich information. Bonus: my postman knocked on my door and I saw a package with your name on it. To my surprise, it was a free T-shirt and an actual transfer plastisol I could heat press onto a T-shirt.

I was skeptical about joining T-shirt riches at first but thank God I followed Holy Spirit’s lead and launched out into the deep!

You guys ROCK! I have done most of my homework, currently sketching my designs, and am meeting with screen printing company in less than 3 days. Any advice on questions I should ask screen printer about specifically? Like tshirt quality, wholesale pricing, repeat business, signing NDA and more.

Maybe this info is recorded in program module but again I’ve only had your program a few days and its already changed my mind about starting and pursuing the passions to share the Good News with others.

    Blessings,
    Charmaine

PS. You’ll be featuring me and my (God’s) business on your successful student program very soon! Can’t wait! Lol

    • We’re so glad to have you as a member, Charmaine! We know you are going to ROCK this!! We can’t wait to see all of your success as you go on this journey!

  • Hello Cartess I’m wanting to know on just starting and on a shoestring budget, what would be the best heat press to purchase with just starting. Secondly what’s the best way to put the word out there that I’m making t Shirts now, do I start wearing the shirts or business cards.

    • Hi Arma!
We recommend Hotronix presses, but we understand that they might be too expensive when first starting out. You can definitely find decent machines on sites like Amazon or Ebay. Just make sure you do research on the brand and model before you commit to purchasing.

As for getting the word out, social media is free and very effective. As well as wearing the tee somewhere that your niche would be hanging out. If someone compliments the shirt, give them your card. Same thing with social media. Find out where your niche is hanging out..groups, fan pages, etc.

We have created a training course that will walk you through the entire process from beginning to end. There’s no reason in trying to figure all this out on your own, cut your learning curb in half! We’ve done all the hard work for you. All you have to do is take advantage of the blueprint we’ll provide, learn the material and apply it towards your business. This isn’t an easy task, this isn’t some get rich quick scam and it will require a lot of hard work if you expect to receive any type of results. Honestly, your results depend on you.

Please click the link to check out the program we have created along with the pricing information.

Thanks for the video mr Ross. Inspiring as usual! I already started promoting my designs. I have no equipment yet but when I get orders for tshirts I will have them printed at a printshop. Already been there asking for prices. Thanks again for your awesome education👍

  • I was introduced to your website about 2-3 weeks ago. I’m excited about starting up with the training program. Currently, I don’t have the funds. However, I am looking forward to being mentored by you in the next 30 days. As previously mentioned, the videos have been extremely helpful. Thank you for giving back to the community of us that are ready to launch our T-shirt businesses.
