By  Cartess Ross

I get soooo many e-mails everyday with everyone saying they want to start their own t-shirt business. But once I ask them what type of t-shirts do they want to design or market, the answer is usually followed up with a, ‘I don’t know’.

And, if you don’t know, then how do you plan to really get started?

My goal is to educate and empower. I want you to be successful and the only way that’s going to happen is if you create a roadmap for yourself… A blueprint for your future.

And that’s why I created the following video — if you want a decent chance of getting your t-shirt business off the ground, go grab some paper and a pen, and watch the following video:

I will guide you through this process and provide you with proven strategies to help you build a t-shirt company. As one of the original pioneers to start selling t-shirts online 20 years ago, I've sold millions of dollars in t shirts to people all over the world. I founded TshirtRiches in 2007 to teach others how to turn their t-shirt ideas into a business. So if you're ready, hop onboard and let's make this money!

  • hi there, i have been buying t shirts from wholesaler and reselling them for a retail price for about a year but i realized there is many so people buying the same t shirts from the same wholesaler and reselling them and it’s a bit competition so i wanted to change it and make my own design. i recently closed down my website couple days ago and i am now working on my new website ” The edgy look” something that has to do with studs/skulls/prints/80’s look. So can you please give me more information about how i need to get it started and what are things i need ? Thanks in advance

  • Hi Cartess,

could you send me the vendor list link for purchase, for wholesale prices for apparel and heat transfers and is that online.

  • i like how cartess lays it all out for you step by step its givin me a lot of new ideas were now im just trying to improve my designs thanks cartess.

Hey Man So Far You Have Been Inspiring… I’m Just Doing Research Through Ya Videos And Etc…And Just Soaking Up Info…Thank You So Much 1 Day I Will Have T Shirt Business I’m Trying To Start.I Have No Prior Knowledge So I’m Just Coming In The Door Trying To Figure It Out.

  • I don’t have a website yet, but I’m at a starting point of starting my own T-shirt business I watched your videos I’m very inspired. I just don’t know what to do first. Lol

    • Your biggest expense will be the heat press machine. The type of machines we recommend are listed in the link below.
      https://www.tshirtriches.com/heat-press-machine-101/

The other aspect of getting started is getting your designs printed. We recommend screen printed transfers. We do not recommend printing from a printer just for the sake of quality. You want to be in business selling products that will allow people to buy from you over and over again; as well as refer others to you. Sadly, printing from a printer will not allow you to do so.

Once you have your designs created; you can send the digital files of the designs to transfer companies. They can take your design and screen printed directly onto the special release paper. There are no printers involved in this process. All the designs are printed by screen printing equipment. Once the designs have been screen printed onto the special release paper instead of directly on shirts. They’ll send you the transfers; which you’ll press directly onto the shirts using the heat press machine you’ve purchased.

The cost of having designs printed will vary; it depends on the amount of colors you have in the design. The more colors you have in the design the more it will cost. If you’re starting with a limited budget; we recommend no more than 2 colors.
Another fact in cost of getting the designs screen printed will be determined by the amount of transfers you have printed. The less you have printed the more you’ll pay. The more you have printed the cost to have the transfers printed, cost drops.

We have a source list available for purchase. The source list includes various companies to purchase custom, and pre-made transfers from a list of transfer vendors as well as vendors to purchase blank shirts.

The price for custom transfers will be determined by the amount of colors you have in your design. If you are on a tight budget then I would recommend no more than 2 colors in the design. The more colors in the design the more it will cost to have the designs screen printed onto the release paper.

If you would, please click the link below to purchase the source list.

Or you can locate a local screen printer in your area to screen printed directly onto blank shirts you supply the screen printer to print on. It’s actually cheaper to purchase your own shirts and give to the screen printer. The price once again will be determined by the amount of colors in the design and how many shirts you have printed. You’ll need to locate a local screen printer in your area to determine prices.

We have created a training course that will walk you through the entire process from beginning to end. We’ve done all the hard work for you. All you have to do is take advantage of the blueprint we’ll provide, learn the material and apply it towards your business. This isn’t an easy task, this isn’t some get rich quick scam and it will require a lot of hard work if you expect to receive any type of results. Honestly, your results depend on you.

The videos are great, enjoy watching them! My question is a bout sublimation transfers/sublimation transfers? I don’t need a graphic designer since it’s my degree field, I have all the programs to create my own designs. What I was wondering is sublimation a good choice to go with as a more vursitile solution to printing on both light and dark colors?
    Thanks in advance!

    • Dustin,

Sublimation printing is not something we’ve focused on. We’ve always sold tshirts that are 50-50 or 100% cotton. Sublimation is primarily for printing on non-cotton items. Which requires a lot more equipment that’s strictly dedicated to sublimation. I would encourage you to do more research on sublimation if that’s the route you plan to go.

As for us, our “niche” has been shirts that are 50-50 or 100% cotton.

  • I have been watching your inspiring videos because I am at a point in my life where I feel i should be determining my own destination. I am currently working 7 days a week, 9 to 5 weekdays and double shift on the weekends at my second job just to make a decent salary. I feel if i could put this kind of time and effort into a business of my own, this would work for me. I am currently building my website but the only thing on it at this time is jewelry and shoes. I have decided to make an adjustment at this time to tee shirts instead of shoes, (too many issues selling those items). Although I have not put tee shirts on my site at this time, signs of my readiness is in affect by the changed name of my site jonzeboyteesandaccessories.com. I am looking for a coach at this point because I need this to work for me so I can pay myself what i deserve for the time I put in for my work instead of settling. I will make this happen.

    VJ.

    • hi VJ, it sounds like you’re on the right track. Keep pushing through. Save that money from the other job, or a portion of it, so you can invest it back into yourself. It’ll happen, just don’t give up. Write out those goals and do one thing each week that’ll help push you toward your goals.
